FISHLEATHER
Fish leather.
Leather does not always have to come from land animals. Fish leather offers a unique, sustainable and versatile option. In my work I combine two types of fish leather, each with their own story and character.
The first part revolves around self-tanned fish leather, sourced from waste from local fish farmers. I work with seasonal fish, which not only strengthens the short chain, but also prevents waste. This leather, which I tan entirely by hand, has a special character: it is not only sustainable, but also slightly translucent and surprisingly strong. Each piece carries the authenticity of craftsmanship and local origin.
The second part focuses on industrially tanned salmon leather from Iceland. This is a beautifully refined material, which is exceptionally supple and available in a wide range of colours. Thanks to the careful processing, the salmon leather gets a luxurious look and versatility, without losing the unique texture of the fish skin.
Together, these two types of fish leather show how waste can be given a new life and how traditional craftsmanship and industrial perfection can complement each other. Whether it's local craftsmanship or international refinement, fish leather tells a sustainable and stylish story.
